The lesson is the part you can see. Most of the work that moves a grade happens around it.

One to one lessons

Live on a shared whiteboard we both write on, and I record them so you can watch it back. In person too if you are local to North London.

Exam prep that means something

Plenty of people know the maths and still lose marks on the day. We work off past papers, marked the way the examiner marks them, so you can see exactly where the marks go.

Small group sessions

Bring a friend or two. It costs less each and nobody hides at the back when there are three of you.

A revision plan you will stick to

Week by week, built backwards from your exam dates. You always know what we are doing next and why.

Worksheets made for you

Practice on the topics you keep getting wrong, not the ones you have already nailed. I build them, I mark them.

Help between lessons

Stuck on a question at 9pm? Send me a photo of it. You get back a voice note of me working through it, or a model answer to follow. If you are under 18, your parent is in the group chat.

How we start

Three steps, no faff

Step 01

A quick call

Ten minutes. You tell me the exam board, the target grade and what the schedule looks like. I tell you straight whether I am the right person, and if I am not, I will say so.

Step 02

A free lesson

A full hour. We work through a variety of questions across different topics so I can see exactly where you are right now, then we build the plan to get to the target.

Step 03

Then we get to work

Sessions are mostly practice, because the goal is doing well in the exam, not knowing a lot. When something is not there we stop, sort it out, then go back to questions until it holds up.

I studied maths at university and I tutor maths alongside it. At A-Level I got A* in Maths, A* in Further Maths and A* in Computer Science, so the papers your son or daughter is about to sit are papers I sat myself, not long ago.

Over 50 students since then, from KS1 up to first year university. I am not going to spend the whole page talking about me. The free lesson tells you more than this section ever will.

Questions

The things people ask me first

Is it online or in person?

Mostly online, over Zoom, with a shared whiteboard we both write on. I record the lessons so they can be rewatched, which students tend to do the week before a paper. In person works too if you are local to North London.

How long is a lesson?

An hour is standard and it is what most students do. Some switch to ninety minutes in the run up to exams when we are working through full papers.

Is there work between lessons?

Yes, usually a set of past paper questions on whatever we covered, and I mark it myself before the next lesson. That marking is where a lot of the value is, because it shows the exact mark that got dropped and why.

Can I really message you between lessons?

Yes. Send a photo of the question you are stuck on and you will get back a voice note of me working through it, or a model answer to follow. If you are under 18, your parent is in the group chat with us.

Do you cover my exam board?

Edexcel, AQA and OCR for both Maths and Further Maths, plus all boards at GCSE. Tell me the board and the modules on the call and I will confirm.

Can you promise a grade?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. I do not do magic and nobody gets an A star from two lessons. What I can promise is structure, a plan, honest feedback and a lot of practice. That is what moves grades.

I'm a parent. Will I know what's happening?

Yes. After every lesson I send a short message covering what we did, how it went and what I have set. If you would rather have a proper catch up every few weeks instead, that is fine too.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, Enhanced. I will send you the certificate before we start if you want to see it, and you are welcome to ask.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Slots go quickest from January onwards, for obvious reasons. If you are thinking about summer exams, earlier is better. Term time evenings fill up first.
